Inside Our Brake Shoe: Cast Steel, Riveted Lining and Repair Kits

Oct 2026 · 6 min read · Brake Shoe Assembly

A brake shoe assembly looks simple at first glance — a curved steel piece with friction lining on the outside. But the difference between a cheap shoe that wears out in 30,000 km and a SAITE shoe that lasts 100,000 km comes down to three things: casting quality, lining bonding method, and hardware kit completeness.

1. Cast Steel Shoe Body

We start with high-strength cast steel, precision-machined to OE tolerances. The shoe web and table are CNC-machined for flatness, ensuring even lining contact against the drum. Every shoe is inspected for dimensional accuracy before lining is applied.

2. Hydraulic Riveted NAO Lining

Our lining is riveted — not glued — under hydraulic pressure. This creates a mechanical bond that holds up under extreme heat and repeated braking. We use NAO (non-asbestos organic) formulation as standard, with semi-metallic and ceramic options available for heavy-duty applications.

3. Complete Repair Kit Hardware

Every assembly ships with springs, pins, retainers and rollers — everything needed for a direct replacement. No need to source hardware separately. Available for American-type (4700/4500 series), German-type (BPW) and Fuwa axle configurations.
